ABOUT
Greg Mc Guinness is an experienced Irish media researcher, photographer and educator, with over a decade of experience working in education and research in multiple countries.
Currently completing his PhD at University College London, Greg’s primary research interests revolve around digital media, specifically video games, where he examines how the negotiation and mapping of subjectivities can acknowledge and record an individual’s entangled experiences with the games they play.
His specific approach to this work engages with feminist materialist, queer and monster theories, using them to explore Irish gothic, folkloric and dystopian elements in role-playing games (RPGs). Alongside this, he is interested in examining how queer individuals and communities engage with such video games , looking at how queer experiences of the medium can be recorded, mapped and archived.
Central to Greg’s research approach is the exploration of creative outputs that engage with a variety of different media. This can be seen in his use of creative writing styles, such as memoir which he regularly utilises in his published work, alongside his interest in documentary photography.
